Compatibility

Only Windows 64-bit and the European Freedom Unite UMD release ULES01213, revision 1.01, are currently documented as supported. Supply your own legitimate, plain uncompressed ISO. Linux, Steam Deck, US/Japanese editions and other Monster Hunter games are future plans.

The maintainer tested a PS5 DualSense. Other SDL-recognized gamepads are expected to work, and keyboard defaults are provided; this is not an independently verified controller compatibility list.

Documented support and independently tested compatibility are different. AllRecomps has not run these games.

Development progress

Release v0.2.2 was published on 2026-10-21. It fixes HUD participation in frame interpolation at 60 FPS and above. The maintainer reports single-player can be completed, but AllRecomps has not tested that claim.

The latest non-prerelease GitHub release observed is v0.2.2. A release does not establish stability, complete gameplay or tested platform support.

Known limitations

The original game logic stays at 30 FPS. Optional 60–180 FPS modes interpolate rendered frames rather than running the simulation at those rates. These modes are experimental; the release recommends 60 or 90 for a safer choice because demanding scenes may not sustain higher output rates.

Online multiplayer is not available and real PSP save imports are not supported yet. This is early software with known rough edges. Windows packages are unsigned; availability of a release does not establish executable safety or bug-free gameplay.

Getting started

Download the Windows x64 ZIP from the official Releases page, extract it into a writable directory and run MHForever.exe. Add your uncompressed European ISO; the launcher checks and prepares its required files locally. Wait for preparation, then select Play. No emulator is required.

Saves are stored separately in Documents\MHForever\saves and settings in %APPDATA%\MHForever. The documented update process preserves these folders. Set resolution scaling, optional texture smoothing and experimental interpolated frame output in launcher Settings.
