About this project

Setup translates the original PS2 code into native Rust and runs it with the project’s Rust CPU core. Graphics, sound, movies, input and saving are implemented by the PC runtime; selected original functions are rewritten for fixes and optional PC features.

Documented support and independently tested compatibility are different. AllRecomps has not run these games.

Development progress

The maintainer reports start-to-credits play and New Game+. Release v0.3.0 adds graphics quality pages, optional illumination and frame smoothing while retaining original simulation timing; these are project reports, not an AllRecomps gameplay test.

Known limitations

The USA edition has less testing than PAL. A faint Thruster-Pack afterimage is missing and some glass can flicker. Optional graphics and smoothing can change rendering cost; no universal hardware or frame-rate guarantee is inferred.

Getting started

Extract the official rac-rs ZIP, run Setup.cmd, choose the ISO of your supported disc and click Install. Setup obtains private Rust/Python/assembler tools in its own folder, validates the disc, generates code and creates a desktop shortcut.

Saves are stored in the player folder. Back it up before a major update; starting the game offers updates that preserve saves and tools. Version 0.3.0 rebuilds the game once, so this update can take longer than incremental ones.
