Xbox 360 / Recompilation

Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005) — Switch

Most Wanted 2005 from Xbox 360 statically recompiled with ReXGlue for Switch. A browser-based installer selects regional builds and prepares shaders from your own disc; demanding areas and first-run shader compilation can reduce smoothness.

About this project

ReXGlue translates the Xbox 360 PowerPC default.xex to C++; the Switch renderer uses Vulkan on Mesa NVK. This is the 2005 Xbox 360 game, distinct from the 2012 Android adaptation.

Compatibility

The source is an Xbox 360 ISO or extracted XEX-format disc. Regional NROs are listed separately; edition detection and shader preparation are handled by the project’s browser installer.

Documented support and independently tested compatibility are different. AllRecomps has not run these games.

Development progress

The project targets 30 FPS at its documented stock-clock configuration. Its own performance notes also report lower rates in heavy areas, so the target is not a fixed performance guarantee.

The latest non-prerelease GitHub release observed is v1.0.0. A release does not establish stability, complete gameplay or tested platform support.

Known limitations

The first race can stutter while graphics pipelines compile. Resolution is chosen at startup and docking changes can require a restart; the README explains that some lower-resolution settings only scale the final image.

Getting started

Use the installer linked by the repository with your own ISO/XEX files, then copy the generated nfsmw-nx folder to /switch/. Required contents include the NRO, nfsmw.toml, shader package and game_root.

Use full-memory title mode. The documentation requires a 39-bit address space when using a forwarder. Its separate update package avoids copying all game data again.

Some projects require files from your own copy of the original game. Follow the official instructions.
