Pokémon SoulSilver — Single Screen

Single-screen SoulSilver USA source-build project with an optional experimental Android arm64 app. Requires your own ROM, mwccarm compiler and Nitro SDK. Windows/Linux setup tools build a modified DS ROM; the Android route uses ssrecomp.

About this project

This fork adapts the HeartGold/SoulSilver decompilation for one-screen SoulSilver: battle commands, moves, bag and party move onto one display, with state exposed for a widescreen/controller frontend. The current single-screen setup is tested only with SoulSilver USA, despite HeartGold in the repository name.

Compatibility

Supply your own SoulSilver USA .nds, mwccarm 2.0/sp2p2 and the compatible Nitro SDK, including tools/templates and library sources. The repository and setup releases do not distribute these proprietary prerequisites. Windows/Linux are setup/build hosts, not proof that the resulting DS ROM is a standalone PC game.

Documented support and independently tested compatibility are different. AllRecomps has not run these games.

Development progress

Release v0.1.4 adds Build + Android app / --android: it builds an arm64 APK from the locally built ROM, using a pinned public ssrecomp commit with this project’s frontend overlaid. It requires CMake and Ninja and downloads the Android NDK on first use. This is a hybrid path through ssrecomp, not a claim that all DS hardware is native code.

The latest non-prerelease GitHub release observed is v0.1.4. A release does not establish stability, complete gameplay or tested platform support.

Known limitations

The ordinary output is SoulSilver-single-screen.nds. Building that ROM is distinct from recompiling it into a host application. Matching retail HeartGold/SoulSilver build claims and source-coverage charts do not establish full gameplay or device compatibility for the modified single-screen version. macOS helpers inherited from upstream are explicitly untested for this fork.

Getting started

Download the official Windows/Linux setup or run pokeheartgold_setup.py. Provide compiler folder/ZIP, SDK tools and library sources, and your SoulSilver USA ROM. The setup places the prerequisites, extracts data locally and builds the modified ROM. Linux also requires make, Python, pkg-config, arm-none-eabi-gcc and Wine.

Choose Build + Android app only when you want the optional Android output, and keep the APK private because it contains your game data. Save import accepts .sav or DeSmuME .dsv; the setup places it beside the built ROM and keeps an existing file as .bak.
