About this project

The main Source Port compiles Melee’s C decompilation into a native library. A second Static Recomp engine translates the retail PowerPC code ahead of time for mods needing the original code. Both use a native runtime; this profile explicitly distinguishes the two.

Compatibility

Supply your own Melee NTSC 1.02 ISO. Windows documentation covers D3D12 and a D3D11 fallback without DLSS. The v0.9.15 release also publishes a Linux x86-64 archive; use its included README for platform-specific adapter setup.

Documented support and independently tested compatibility are different. AllRecomps has not run these games.

Development progress

The current release is v0.9.15, newer than the version line retained in the README. Its notes fix a Static Recomp crash in long online Teams sessions. Display interpolation is documented separately from the game’s fixed 60 Hz simulation.

Known limitations

Engine choice matters for mods: documented training mods target Source Port, while Akaneia uses Static Recomp and matching Direct builds. Experimental graphics paths and native DualShock 4 handling are not universal guarantees. D3D11 does not provide DLSS.

Slippi account login through Slippi Launcher is required for online play but not for offline play. The project is independent of the Slippi team. Windows renderer features are not presumed present in the Linux build simply because both downloads exist.

Getting started

For Windows, use the current release ZIP and supply your NTSC 1.02 ISO through the optional launcher or documented batch-file workflow. For Linux v0.9.15, extract the Linux archive and run ./MeleeUnlocked; follow its README for the GameCube adapter.

Close the game and launcher before updating, then preserve settings, saves, mods and replays. Memory-card saves use the Dolphin GCI-folder format. Use the engine required by each mod rather than mixing builds blindly.

Some projects require files from your own copy of the original game. Follow the official instructions.
