About this project

WindowSmash translates the game’s AArch64 CPU code to C ahead of time and links it with a custom runtime for operating-system services, graphics, input, audio and networking.

Compatibility

The alpha runtime targets game 11.0.0 on Windows 10/11 x64, an AVX2/FMA/F16C CPU and a Direct3D 11 GPU. Linux x64 is experimental, cross-compiled from the source with DXVK, Vulkan and SDL2; it is not the Windows download.

Documented support and independently tested compatibility are different. AllRecomps has not run these games.

Development progress

Public GitHub release checked: v0.1.0-alpha.1 (prerelease), published 2026-10-18T00:52:10Z. Publication does not certify stability or complete gameplay.

Known limitations

This is a prerelease with one local player per instance. Complete two-PC matches and the full fighter/stage roster are not comprehensively verified; shader compilation can cause hitches. It has no Nintendo online-service integration and requires your own matching game data and firmware fonts.

Getting started

For Windows, extract the runtime package, use Configure Game Data.bat to select your own compatible RomFS and fonts, then Play SSBU.bat. Consult the separate README-LINUX.md for the experimental Linux build.
