About this project
OpenSmash-Ultimate is the current project name; ssbu-recomp is its repository name. It translates AArch64 game code to native C and implements console services with a Vulkan renderer and an OpenGL fallback on Windows.

Compatibility
Use your own SSBU dump with update 13.0.4 or 13.0.5. The Windows path specifies Windows 10/11 x64 and Vulkan 1.3; the installation prepares data and code locally. It does not include the game or console keys.

Linux instructions document a native build with at least 16 GB RAM, a Vulkan 1.3 driver and modern clang/SDL3 packages. Only 13.0.4 was tried there on the maintainer’s CachyOS/NVIDIA/Wayland PC; other Linux hardware and Steam Deck remain untested.

Documented support and independently tested compatibility are different. AllRecomps has not run these games.
Development progress
The maintainer documents complete scripted 1v1 matches to the results screen, initial play in some modes and an experimental Local Wireless network layer. Public prerelease assets are runtime components used by the installer, not a bundled finished game.

Known limitations
Rollback netcode is still in progress; it must not be advertised as available. World of Light only reached the intro, several multiplayer modes remain untested, and controller tests largely use virtual devices. Source-coverage percentages are not percentages of game completion.

The Linux build has no online mode or album movie recording. Its F1 menu compiles in CI but had not been tried on a real Linux desktop; physical controllers and Steam Deck are not validated.

Getting started
On Windows, download the repository and use Install SSBU.bat to check your system and locate your own game/update data. The installer obtains its runtime and prepares game libraries locally; Play SSBU.bat starts the result.

The Linux procedure installs documented dependencies and runs scripts/setup.py --target linux with your dump, then ./play.sh. Back up saves before changing builds; the documented Windows save layout contains save_data below build/saves/save. Linux setup has separate requirements and limitations.

Some projects require files from your own copy of the original game. Follow the official instructions.
