About this project
This preservation/research project targets God Hand NTSC-U SLUS-21503. Functions are rewritten from assembly to C/C++ and compared with the original compiler output using objdiff, while PS2 overlays are reconstructed with the same toolchain.

Compatibility
The output is the original PS2 boot ELF, not a native PC game. Linux, Windows WSL2 and a Linux container on macOS are documented as development environments only; no playable desktop platform is listed here. Your own NTSC-U disc is required.

Documented support and independently tested compatibility are different. AllRecomps has not run these games.
Development progress
The README distinguishes whole-ELF byte identity from the percentage of functions actually rewritten in C. An assembly-based empty carve can already reproduce retail bytes, so binary identity does not mean 100% decompiled. Live progress is linked on decomp.dev rather than invented here.

Known limitations
The sole stated goal is matching decompilation: there is no game launcher or PC port in this repository. It must not be confused with LasVola’s recompilation or the Rearmed fork, which consume its function names. Original SDK/toolchain components have separate requirements and rights.

Getting started
For contributors: extract your own God Hand USA ISO with the documented scripts, provision the PS2 toolchain and cross-binutils, split the executable/overlays and run compile.py. Compare the output hash with the retail ELF. These steps prepare a research build, not installation of a PC game.

Some projects require files from your own copy of the original game. Follow the official instructions.
